Ten Years UN MUSIC CLUB – 2003-2013

Alex Ezana, a translater in the United Nations in Geneva was the first UN employee to think up the UN Music Club. He had grown into the music by listening to jazz: Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Dexter Gordon. What struck him most was the feeling of wellness experienced by musicians who would gather to express themselves in this extraordinary musical language, integrating African rythmical traditions and Western melodic/harmonic development. It seemed perfectly normal for him that this should be supported in a UN environment.
He went about finding likeminded individuals, put together a bunch of musicians, persisted in his search for rehearsal rooms and the UN Music Club was born.
Of the founding members in 2003, the few remaining in the Club today are Mimi Ameti, Nathalie Guerra, Paolo di Rosa, Alex Ezana and Nicolas Stauble. Other founding members were Rick Troxel, Aniel and Dominique Blanvillain, Bryan Larner, Jean-Marie Planche, Enrique Hernandez, Mimi Pinson, Barry Moynehan, Piero, Vanessa
Among the first to hire the UN Music Club band was Amnesty International in neighbouring France and the Nyon Fête de la Musique. . Christiane ….. was an early supporter and became the Club’s first Treasurer.

Eventually three sections were created, classical, jazz and rock/pop

The Classical Music section…..
to be edited …….
The rock/pop section…. to be edited
The UN Choir was initially created……. to be edited
In 2006 the Haiti disaster urged the Club to create a large band and to respond with a World Music project in support of reconstruction. The first UN Music Project was born. It lead to the recording of the first CD in the UN Music Club history. Musical action in response to the Japan tsunami followed later.
In 20?? the Club pursued an old idea conducive to get people without musical education to get involved into a musical experience. This led to the creation of The Percussion ensemble.
The way forward:  A follow-up to the World Music …. to be edited….
